Nested-Based Solution
Stiles observed that nested-based CNC routing continues
to gain momentum as an efficient manufacturing process,
but their customers needed a cost-effective solution in
todayÕs economic climate. Stiles shared their customersÕ
requests with Weeke Maschinenbau to engineer an entry-level
CNC router. Stiles
has been WeekeÕs exclusive
distributor in
the United
States for
over 20
years. The
outcome of
these collaborative
efforts is the Weeke Vantech
series of CNC routers.
But German engineering alone didnÕt fulfill the expectation
of Stiles and their customers. By manufacturing in the States,
they could build machines for less without factors such as fluctuating
exchange rates and international shipping costs. So
they established Weeke North America to provide a router
with German engineered quality at an American-made price.
Primarily designed for nested-based machining, the
Vantech series of routers incorporates the advantages of
Weeke performance at an affordable price. Available in 4' x
8', 5' x 10' and 5' x 12' table sizes, all of the models are constructed
with an extremely durable foundation to accommodate
the CNC routerÕs high-speed capabilities while
ensuring the machineÕs longevity. Windows-based programming
software is a standard feature for maximum flexibility
and easy integration with popular design packages. Other
features include Quik-Pod system for added flexibility, dual
drive gantry, and pneumatic positioning pins.

Balanced at 60,000 RPM
LMT Onsrud LP, a leading manufacturer of solid
carbide cutting tools, introduces balanced single
flute spiral cutting tools to run at RPMs as high
as 60,000.
Manufacturers that specialize in marketing
CNC routers for the sign industry have incorporated
high speed spindles into their design.
Most of these spindles
turn up to 60,000 RPM
compared to standard
router spindle speeds of
24,000 RPM. The advantages
of high spindle
speeds is an increase in
feed rates in plastic, aluminum
and wood sheet
material, which are commonly
utilized in the sign
industry.
Multiple flute tools are
naturally balanced by
design, but in some cases,
single flute spiral tools are not.
Single flute spiral tools are naturally
unbalanced due to the location and
amount of the carbide that is
removed during the grinding
process. LMT Onsrud has developed
a method to balance single
flute spiral tools by engineering
design and a specialized manufacturing
process.
ÒThe market is demanding a balanced
single flute spiral cutting tool.
We listened to the customer and
now are offering balanced tools up
to 60,000 RPMÓ explains, Jennifer
Neubauer, Marketing Manager, LMT Onsrud LP. The
offering is part of LMT OnsrudÕs standard product line of
upcut and downcut spiral ÔOÕ flutes for soft plastics, hard
plastics and acrylics.

Diamond Edge Polisher
AWED Corp. introduces the ARIA2B high capacity diamond
edge polisher for all types of acrylic and other composite
materials. The heavy construction of this polisher
means vibration is
minimized providing
a transparent
polish finish.
The cutter was
designed exclusively
for the
ARIA2B and
compliments
the design of the
machine. The operator
can bevel up to
46 degrees by using
the touch control
screen without any
other adjustment to
the clamp bridge or
cutter motor carriage.
With the ARIA2B you can tilt, clamp and go at the
fastest travel speed of any polisher made.
The machine is available with a standard 5-foot long
and 4" high polishing capacity and a 0 to 46 degree beveling
position. It has single-phase 220-volt operation or
220v 3 phase and comes complete with an excellent chip
collection system and cooling effect.
Mills, Bits & Diamond Edge Polishing
AWED also carries Euracryl tooling, by far the most versatile
in the industry. The end mills, router bits and diamond
edge polishing cutters are of the highest quality and

Bits for Composites
Amana Tool, manufacturer of industrial-quality carbide tipped,
solid carbide and replacement carbide cutting
tools, announced availability of its solid carbide roughing
spiral multi-flute router bits. With the bits, users can cut
abrasive materials such as carbon fiber, Trespa¨ and fiberglass.
The new
router bits are
ideal for industrial
applications,
including
manufacturing
airplanes
and boats,
using CNC
and table-mounted router machines. AmanaÕs unique
multi-flute router bit geometry helps prevent chip out on
the top of the material by pushing chips down during the
cutting pass. Made from a special carbide grade, the bits
last longer than standard router bits, especially when
working with abrasive materials. The superior performance
also ensures CNC users the most yield from each
sheet of material. Frank Misiti, technical director with
Amana Tool, said, ÒRouter bit durability is a major concern
for manufacturers and other users working with
abrasive materials. Amana ToolÕs exclusive carbide
grade and unique router bit geometry not only create a
better, more accurate cut, they help bits last longer, saving
both time and materials.Ó
AmanaÕs roughing spiral multi-flute router bits are available
in 1/4Ó and 1/2Ó diameters.

or delaminate when exposed to humidity or water.
Cabinets and furniture made using StarBoard ST are easy
to clean, resistant to the harshest chemicals and never
need refinishing. Many cabinetmakers are using the material
for indoor applications like boxes for sinks and anywhere
there is potential for water damage.
ÒOur original StarBoard has proven itself for over two
decades in the most severe marine environments on the
finest
boats and
yachts,Ó
says Jeff
King,
president
of King
