Food Grade Acetal
With a recent shift
in food production
away from bulk
packaging necessary
for restaurant supply
to consumer packaging
necessary for increased
retail sales
that resulted from the global pandemic, food producers
have had to retool to accommodate the shift in demand.
This combined with the continuing need to
maintain high levels of food safety, has created a spike
in demand for many of the plastics used in food processing,
production and packaging equipment.
FDA compliant TECAFORM® AH UD blue is a revolutionary
food grade acetal plastic that processors have
discovered makes them more efficient because of the
unique set of detection characteristics inherent to this
material. T ECAFORM AH UD blue contains special additives
that make it visible to metal, x-ray and vision detection
systems commonly used in food manufacturing.
This increases the material’s versatility and usefulness
to the food producer because in the event the material
inadvertently finds its way into the food product, it will
remain visible to scanning equipment regardless of the
scanning method being used, and thus improves production
efficiency while maintaining food safety. The material
is also lighter than stainless steel which increases line
speed and energy efficiency.

High-Performance Shapes
High-performance
plastics
are high-priced,
low volume
polymers
that are sold for
their use in very
specialized applications
requiring
a combination of extraordinary properties, most notably
high strength at high temperatures.
High-performance polymers offer outstanding elevated
thermal resistance, high strength and stiffness, and
broad UV and chemical resistance. They are used in a variety
of applications where resistance to high heat, load,
certain solvents and chemicals, flame, and degradation
due to UV are paramount.
Quantum has refocused its product line on stock
shapes made from four high performance polymers –
PEEK, PEI, PPS and PVDF and two acetal homopolymer
polymer grades for specialized applications – Delrin®
100AF and Delrin AFDE588.
Together with ease of machining and excellent dimensional
stability during secondary fabrication, Quantum’s
high performance stock shapes are ideal for use
in many critical applications by offering engineers exceptional
flexibility and freedom in product development
and design.
Quantum manufactures stock shapes using only 100%
virgin resins purchased directly from resin suppliers. Furthermore,
all of Quantum’s products are hot air annealed
for dimensional stability, they pass a rigorous ISO inspection
program, and have full lot and batch traceability.
Quantum currently stocks unfilled and glass filled high
performance stock shapes with low minimums and reasonable
lead times from 3/8”to 12” diameter rods, and
plates from 3/8” to 6” thick.

High Temperature HPPs
With nearly 30
years’ experience
in working with thermoplastic
and thermoset
compounds, Polymics
has established itself as
a leader in fulfilling its
“Concept to Solution”
mission. Polymics identifies
its customers specific application requirements.
Then provides the most cost-effective solution which
meets or exceeds all critical performance criteria.
PBI (Polybenzimidazole), also known as Celazole from
its HC days, offers the highest overall performance of
any engineering polymer. With CUT/CST values of 800°F
it is unmatched in its thermal, strength, stiffness, wear,
and plasma resistance. Only 3 companies worldwide are
approved to process it with Polymics being the only one
to supply resin, compounds, shapes and even parts.
Polymics is licensed to provide the greatest breadth of
product offering through compression molding, extrusion
and injection molding. The value proposition at
Polymics is further substantiated with its extensive offering
of grades and sizes to maximize performance and

Polyimide Shapes, Parts, & Liquid
R. Blaine Industries (RBI)
announced the further expanded
availability of its
VTEC™ Polyimide (PI) Stock
Shapes, Parts and Liquid materials.
Small diameter rod has
now been added, with sizes as
small as .060” diameter now
available. Incremental diameters
are also available to reduce
the need to turn down
from larger diameters. Other
additions to the line include
200mm and 300mm square sheet stock, glass filled polyimide
stock shapes, and many OD / ID tube and bushing
stock sizes (to eliminate having to drill out solid rod).
RBI's unique VTEC economy grade (EG) materials bring
down the high cost of traditional polyimides while providing
unparalleled reliability comparable to other high-performance
materials. Hybrid VTEC polymer materials are
available with many fillers and modifications including carbon,
graphite, glass, PTFE, fibers, and minerals to exactly
match application requirements to replace metals, and upgrade
many other polymers which are underperforming.
VTEC is a virtually indestructible polymer that overcomes
many of the limitations of traditional high performance
plastic materials. It does not have some of the
negative ‘engineering factors’ of Torlon, PEEK, and PPS.
For example, VTEC is not sensitive to moisture and steam
like Torlon, which makes VTEC ideal for oil patch applications.
Also, VTEC EG does not have the low Tg problem
that compromises PEEK in high temperature applications.
And, VTEC EG does not have the poor wear characteristics
of PPS, so VTEC is ideal for any type of
bearing and wear application to 500°F continuous.
VTEC Polyimide is also available in liquid form for applications
where a polyimide coating or film is desired.
It is typically applied and then thermal cured into a thin
film or coating layer. Applications include cast films (including
ESD); thin wall tubing; glass coating (to reduce
breakage); metal coating (to create a high temp wear surface
or to make metal non-conductive); semiconductor
and microelectronic stress buffers or passivation layers;
high temp adhesives; optical fiber and capillary coatings;
R&D projects; wire enamels, etc.
RBI's VTEC line also includes direct-formed parts and
machined parts, in addition to stock shapes (sheet, rod,
tube). RBI also produces near-net custom VTEC shapes
that save machining time as well as material cost. Mold
costs for custom stock shapes are very reasonable, often
as low as $500. VTEC can be used for any challenging application
where a polymer is
required. It is also ideal for replacing
thermoset, thermoplastic,
ceramic, epoxy, and metal.
Medical implant grades of
VTEC in liquid and solid from
are available and solving next
generation application challenges.
RBI is a manufacturing company
specializing in polyimide
materials and hybrid polymers.
Its products are used in
the aerospace, compressor,
military, semiconductor, robotics,
pump/ valve, scientific instrument,
medical, and biotech
industries.
