Name Change/Think Tank
Minnesota Plastics, one of the nation’s largest stocking distributors of engineering plastics, has announced a name change to Plastics International. As the company has expanded their coverage to include national and international customers, the new name more accurately reflects their growth. Minnesota Plastics opened in 1985, with the nearly extinct business philosophy of providing plastics for the machining industry without competing with the machine shops that buy their plastic product. Most plastic distributors today operate with a different philosophy by purchasing in-house machining centers, which compete directly with their machine shop customers. Plastics International will continue the founders’ philosophy of providing the machine-shop industry with a noncompetitive source for plastics. To lead their efforts against the “Coyote Plastics of the World,” Joe Mulvey has been promoted to Director of Sales. In addition, PI will fund a “Think Tank” Symposium, chaired by Joe Mulvey, to study the
effects of the “coyote plastics” philosophy on the machine shop industry.
