INCREASED SPEED OF FIVE AXIS CNC ROUTER
Thermwood Corporation, the leading manufacturer of five axis CNC routers for plastic trimming has announced that mechanical and software changes to its systems has resulted in significantly faster head positioning. The acceleration rate for the rotary head axes has been doubled and the top speed has been tripled. The result of these increases provide a worst case head positioning time of 1.7 seconds and an average positioning time of 900 milliseconds.
In tests the new head has resulted in trimming cycles that were 10 to 30% faster than the older systems. The actual improvement depends on the amount of rotary head movement in the program. Three dimensional pattern work, which used a large amount of head movement has executed in less than half the time required by the previous head.
During the last eighteen months, Thermwood has addressed the two major performance areas of five axis trimming, programming and running. Thermwood's programming probe reduced complex programming time by up to 90% and now the new high speed head reduces program execution time.
