NEXT CENTURY IN BLOOM
The Rhode Island Spring Flower and Garden Show will feature a garden created out of recycled plastic products. "Looking Ahead," an urban patio garden incorporating natural plant material and the durability of recycled plastic hardscape, including garden timbers, containers, decking and patio furniture, is being sponsored by the American Plastics Council. "People always wonder what happens to the materials they recycle," said Joyce F. Gagnon, a spokesperson for the APC who coordinated the project. "This garden provides a glimpse at some of the products that contain recycled materials. For example, 240 plastic milk jugs were converted to make each of the Adirondack chairs featured in the display. We're striving to make our environmental impact a visual one -- a beautiful garden." To help show-goers learn more about other recycled plastic products that are available for landscape applications, the American Plastics Council will be distributing a Garden Source Book of Recycled Plastic Products and Top Ten Tips for a Greener Garden at their booth (#437).
