NON-FLAMMABLE FILM AND LIABILITY
The term "State-of-the-Art Awareness" (What was the state of scientific knowledge about potential hazards at the time the product was sold) should not be considered just another term bantered about within the legal community; it should be considered a real concern, causing astronomical penalties, as all involved in the plastics industry are vulnerable.
If you manufacture, convert, wholesale, distribute or sell at retail a product or trim element consisting of thin gauge Polyester (PET) or Polystyrene (PS) film, you should be aware that these product classifications are inherently flammable and potentially lethal due not only to the potential fire hazard but the resulting smoke and toxic gas inhalation. Application of these film products innocently surround us in the form of decorative/functional trim on toys, appliances, contemporary artificial foliage plus a myriad more and are found throughout the home, business, in theaters, at exhibitions and virtually everywhere people congregate. All of these film applications perform a targeted aesthetic effect, sometimes even dramatic and share one common denominator; potential liability from negligence.
To eliminate this ever present hazard, Coburn Corporation has introduced two "people/business saving" lines of film called RODYNE(r) Non-Flam(r). First a Non-Flam(r) vinyl version (non flammable by inherent chemical composition) and second Non-Flam(r) engineering grade polycarbonate with a formula modification ensuring self-extinguishing properties. The RODYNE(r) series is available in a full spectrum of crystal clear transparent colors plus their opaque counterparts. All of these conventionally converted film products are produced in roll format with factory slitting or sheeting-to-specification available. RODYNE(r) Non-Flam(r), a product line engineered to answer the demands of the coming millennium: aesthetics, function and safety.
