NEW GOVERNMENT RULES FOR DRINKING WATER
The Federal Safe Drinking Water Act amendments of 1996 become effective August 6 of this year. The Plumbing Manufacturers Institute and the American Supply Association have issued a joint statement clarifying these requirements.
Specific products covered by Standard 61, Section 9 are: single and two handle lavatory faucets; single and two hole bar faucets; single and two handle kitchen faucets; hot and cold water dispensers; drinking fountains, drinking fountain bubblers, and water coolers, glass fillers; residential refrigerator ice makers; supply stops and endpoint control valves.
Also new to the 1996 amendments is a provision making it unlawful to "introduce into commerce any pipe, or any pipe or plumbing fitting or fixture, that is not lead-free,..."
