SIGN COMPANY SWITCHES MATERIAL
The Custom Graphics Division of World of Plastics, Inc. has embarked on a new project to exclusively use DSM Sheffield's VIVAK UV in their changeable sign letter font production. The Custom Graphics Division of World of Plastics, Inc. is essentially a screenprinter that prints fonts of changeable sign letters on rectangular pieces of clear material. The company typically markets a 300-count Commercial font that includes a variety of letters, numerals and punctuation for use in a wide range of temporary sign applications like those commonly used at gas stations, restaurants, service stations and churches. Formerly they used various resin blends of impact-modified acrylic in sign font production. VIVAK UV edged out traditional alternatives because it's easier to cut and affords superior impact strength. "Impact strength is the real issue here. You don't focus on product life with sign letters," says Dennis Dean, President of World of Plastics. "At least not in the same way you'd compare materials for a more typical application like a skylight, for example." "A typical letter won't last for longer than 3 or 4 years, and in fact, most letters get lost, misplaced or broken before they ever wear out from weather exposure. Value to the customer in changeable sign letters comes from how the product stands up to bending and use in hanging before it will break."
