Bayer Corporation has developed the first polycarbonate film that retains a low first-surface gloss after forming. Makrofol® DE VLG 7-1D polycarbonate film offers the lowest first-surface gloss available in the marketplace, it can also be used to provide a matte finish for decorated appliques.
Heat causes traditional polycarbonate film to become glossy and lose its texture during thermoforming, high-pressure forming and film insert molding operations. This often requires extra processing steps, such as the application of first-surface texture coats to control the appearance of the finished part.
Because this film minimizes gloss-up problems associated with forming, it is no longer necessary to overprint a first-surface decorated film in order to control first-surface gloss.
The film is available in three thicknesses - .010, .015 and .020 inches - with a first-surface velvet texture and second-surface gloss texture, and is available in 24-inch by 48-inch sheets, as well as rolls up to 48 inches wide.
