Makers of backlit signs can eliminate their laminating needs with a pair of new printable plastics from Transilwrap Company, Inc. DIGIGraphx™ digital media Polyester Back-Print Film and DIGIGraphx™ Polycarbonate Back-Print Film feature special back-side coatings that accept reverse-print images from most wide-format inkjet printers, including piezo.
The back-side coatings on both films allow inkjet inks to migrate through the coating without losing their integrity, creating high-resolution images.
The polyester back-print film is designed primarily for indoor backlit signs and is available in gauges of 5 mil and 7 mil and in widths up to 60 inches.
The polycarbonate back-print film is designed for applications that demand exceptional durability, such as backlit signs for bus kiosks or for trade-show exhibits that are assembled and disassembled frequently. It is a rugged film with excellent anti-abrasive and lay-flat qualities, and it can be used with dye-based, pigmented inks that resist ultraviolet light. The 12 mil film is available in widths up to 42 inches; Transilwrap plans to add 50-inch and 54-inch widths in the near future.
