CO-EXTRUSION SYSTEM FOR IN-LINE THERMOFORMING

Welex, Inc. has developed a new high capacity in-line sheet extrusion system for feeding thermoforming machines. The 6300 lb/hr high impact polystyrene line is the largest ever built.

The line includes four extruders to produce glossy, two color, high impact polystyrene (HIPS) sheet in a width of about 48" (1200 mm) and a thickness range of .030-.080 (0.75-2.0 mm).

The system is also capable of running the other two major packaging materials, Polypropylene and PET, at similar high capacities without modification. This provides customers with the flexibility for future applications without added initial cost.

The sheet take-off is built to minimum length to permit maximum retention of heat in the sheet. A side mounted integral closed loop roll temperature control system permits this line length reduction without loss of efficiency due to long piping runs.
