PLASTIC PIPE DEMAND
Worldwide demand for plastic pipe is forecast to increase over 5 percent per year through 2003 to 4.6 billion meters, providing a market for 13.8 million metric tons of plastic resin. Advances will be generated by rebounding construction activity in Europe and the Asia/Pacific region, along with growing worldwide demand for plastic pipe in applications such as conduit, drainage and sewers, and natural gas distribution. Plastic pipe will make gains at the expense of other materials, because of its light weight, resistance to corrosion and generally lower costs of installation. These and other trends are presented in World Plastic Pipe, a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., a Cleveland-based industrial market research firm.
