EDGE-LIT TECHNOLOGY PLEXIGLAS®
Elf Atochem North America, Inc. offers
Plexiglas® ELiT edge-lit acrylic sheet. The new acrylic sheet makes possible
slim, attractive, lightweight, and economical signs and displays, avoiding bulky
light boxes and display cases. The sheet, which comes in a standard 10-mm
thickness, may be curved at a minimum 20-inch radius to hug columns or other
curved profiles.
The edge-lit acrylic sheet is specially
formulated for edge lighting on one or two sides, using florescent tubes. Made
with a patented process, the sheet contains a proprietary additive that scatters
light introduced at its edges so that it diffuses evenly through the display
surfaces.
Edge-lit technology creates bright and
evenly lit display panels in frames as slim as 1.5-inch thick.
Graphics can appear on one or both
surfaces. In single-surface display applications, the Plexiglas ELiT sheet used
with a white backing material reflects light to the other surface. In
double-sided displays, each display surface contains the graphic. Material for
the graphic can be paper, polyester, or vinyl. The display size determines
whether lighting is required on one or more edges. De signers can use the sheet
off the shelf since custom screened surface prep a rations are unnecessary.
The sheet retains all the mechanical,
thermal, fabrication, and weathering properties of original Plexiglas acrylic
sheet.
