EXPANDED CELL-CAST ACRYLIC CAPACITY
The Atoglas Division of ATOFINA Chemicals, Inc. announced the completed expansion of its cell-cast acrylic production line in Matamoros, Mexico. According to Jim Dunn, General Manager of the Atoglas Division, the project increased cell-cast sheet production at the plant by 25%. "The cell-cast expansion broadens our capability to produce heavy gauge Plexiglas® acrylic sheet products - up to 2 inches in thickness - from the methylmethacrylate monomer," says Dunn. "This expansion enhances our ability to serve growing North and Latin American markets in the point-of-purchase industry, security (bullet-resistant) partitions, and military applications."
"Additionally," says Dunn, "we're in the process of adding an extrusion line for the first time at the Matamoros plant. This new melt-calendered line will produce both Plexiglas acrylic sheet and Tuffak® polycarbonate sheet from polymerized raw materials. It will primarily serve growing markets for these sheet products in Latin America."
