Amorphous PET Sheet
APET (Amorphous PET) sheet is a technological advance in plastic sheet that is now available in the United States. Portal of Plastics is the eastern U.S. representative (east of the Rockies) for Saehan Industries APET sheet. The sheet offers some distinct advantages in applications including formed skylights, bus shelters, signs, displays, industrial guarding, and general thermoforming.
Since APET is inherently UV stable, the sheet is offered with a seven-year warranty against yellowing/weathering in outdoor applications. Adding UV stabilizers increases the warranty to 10 years to match other UV-upgraded materials.
The sheet offers other advantages such as impact resistance, chemical resistance, no burn/low smoke, FDA approval, and ease of forming. APET is the closest of all (clear-type) plastic materials to polycarbonate in terms of impact strength. Coupled with excellent impact resistance, APET is also extremely chemical resistant. APET does not require pre-drying, and forms at much lower temperatures and faster rates. APET cannot, however, be solvent bonded due to it's extreme chemical resistance. This material is widely used in European and Asian countries and is quickly gaining popularity here in the United States.
