Spectar® Sheet Provides Affordable High End Furniture Design
When Brazilian designer Lars
Diederichsen needed a material
for the new chair he was designing, he
looked for something beautiful, easy
to work with and reasonably priced.
He chose Spectar® copolyester from
Eastman Chemical Company, and the
result was his creative “Giro” chair.
To produce his Giro (“giro” is Portuguese for movement)
chair, Diederichsen took sheets of Spectar copolyester,
cutting and forming it into an anatomically-pleasing
shape. He then attached the resulting plastic shell to a
metal base with four screws.
“In order to conceive a quality product with attractive
design, it is not simply enough to be creative. It is necessary
to look for and to explore innovating materials that
may reach consumers with lower prices,” said
Diederichsen. “Giro has sufficient qualities to decorate
with high class places such as balconies, offices, restau-rants,
dressing rooms, among other options, without forcing
the client to pay high prices,” he said.
