FDA-Compliant Lubricated Nylon
A new, lubricated, cast-nylon grade, Nylatron® LFG, offers an ideal combination of improved wear-resistance and FDA compliance. Developed by Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products, the new material is ideal for use in food/dairy processing and packaging equipment, and pharmaceutical processing and packaging equipment.
The material meets the requirements of FDA Regulation 21 CFR, Section 177.1500 (c) (6). Nylatron LFG’s internal lubricant, essentially permanently suspended oil, provides a continuously lubricated surface for applications, where scheduled lubrication is difficult or impossible. The internal lubricant does not leach out of the material after machining or in use and provides considerable improvement in sliding properties.
Nylatron LFG has been successfully tested in critical components for food equipment applications. For example, wear strips in food drying towers, where lubrication is impossible and continuous operating temperature reaches 200°F.
Other key properties, compared with standard castnylon grades, include improved coefficient of friction, better wear resistance and greater ease of machining.
Nylatron® LFG is available in a wide range of rod, sheet and tube sizes. The material has the creamy-white color, typical of natural nylon formulations.
