United Resins, Inc. Celebrates 50 Years
Fifty years ago, a
chemist and WWII
veteran from West
Virginia had a dream.
Albert O達rien wanted
to start a cast
acrylic manufacturing
plant.
Initial use of
cast acrylic was
developed by the US
military for windshields and other components on
wartime aircraft. O達rien founded United Resins
Incorporated after WWII at a time when new cast
acrylic applications were emerging.
In 1954, O達rien started his cast acrylic rod
manufacturing site in an old hatchery in southern
New Jersey. Casting acrylic is a very specialized
process and he had to design and perfect a
process from scratch. By the late 50痴, United
Resins was casting hundreds of pounds of small
diameter rod for the telecommunications industry
and added cast acrylic tubing to its product line.
In the late 60痴, O達rien established a partnership
with Arthur Laverne Hyde, the founder of AL
Hyde Company. United Resins grew rapidly into a
major manufacturer of cast acrylic rod and tube.
O達rien and Hyde made the decision to market
exclusively through of plastic distributors. As a
result of this strategy, United Resins and AL Hyde
Company grew dramatically and AL Hyde Company
was the very first manufacturer inducted into
the IAPD (then NAPD).
Albert O達rien still serves as the full time
President of United Resins Incorporated.
