GE Plastics Unit For Sale

General Electric Co. is selling its GE Plastics unit. For months, GE has been complaining about the disappointing results of GE Plastics, which has been hurt by rising commodity prices, inflation and competitive pressures.

GE Plastics remains a dominant player in the industry, with considerable profits and a widely recognized marketing and management team that is likely to attract a variety of interested buyers.

GE believes it will find a buyer by the second quarter and close on a deal by the end of the year. Although interested buyers also may include competitors, investment analysts say the successful bid most likely will come from a private equity firm.
