Insert CNC System
Amana Tool
announced its new In-Plastic™ CNC Insert Cut
and Quad Chamfer System featuring one tool body with
multiple carbide insert knives for cutting, plunging and
chamfering plastic materials. In-Plastic users can produce
crisp, clean cuts that enable efficient chip removal allowing
for improved cutting performance and faster operation
with no melting. Thirteen different knives accommodate
varying material thicknesses and provide excellent
performance when cutting and chamfering for Plexiglas®,
polystyrene and other plastic materials.
The new system allows CNC machine users to cut and
chamfer the top and bottom of both sides of plastics in
one action. Amana Tool’s insert knives are made from submicro
grain carbide particles that create
a finer edge, are more resistant to wear
and last at least twice as long as standard
comparable solid carbide bits.
The new knives also fit the In-Groove
tool bodies, available in ¼” and
½” shank diameters,
both of which
are expertly
balanced and
can rotate at
very high
speeds with virtually no
vibration.

New Controller & Tool
Changer
AXYZ International announced the release of the A2MC
machine controller system for all AXYZ International CNC
Routers. The next generation control system represents a
tremendous leap forward and has been developed to be
familiar for current users so that learning curves are dramatically
shortened.
The controller includes smoother and faster motion
based on S-Curve trajectories, is NC code compatible,
reads NC code directly and converts the code to precise
machine motion, follows true arcs as created in the output
files, functions in either Metric or Imperial formats, is
compatible with existing sub console but is also functional
with an operator screen and mouse, has virtually no
limits on file size, and is based on a Windows CE platform
so it is very expandable.
Automatic Tool Changer System
AXYZ also introduced their new 21G and 7G Automatic
Tool Change Systems. The new systems offer increased
capacity and are overall a much faster and more reliable
tool change system.
New features include very fast tool
changes – 30 seconds or less. The ATC
changes tools from below the level of
the table increasing the usable area of
the machine gantry without increasing
its size and without interfering with
loading and unloading of materials
from any side of the machine and
offers the capability to load tools on
multiple spindle machines from a single
tool changer. Each ATC system
includes as standard an auto tool
length sensor.

Inserts for Plastics
E-Z LOK has introduced a new line of ultrasonic thread
inserts designed to provide strong threads in thermoplastic.
The brass inserts are engineered for use in tapered
holes and are available in single and double vane designs.
Internal thread sizes range from 2-56 to 3/8-16 and 10-
32 to 3/8-24. E-Z LOK ultrasonic inserts can be installed
with either ultrasonic insertion equipment or a heat driver.
The tapered design reduces installation time and
improves torque and pull out resistance. In addition,
the
tapered
design
applies
minimal
stress to
molded
hole
walls.
Ideal for plastic components requiring assembly
and disassembly, ultrasonic inserts are typically
used in computer/instrument cases, terminal
boards, electronics and communications equipment.

Antimicrobial Protection
King Plastic
announced that it would offer King
MicroShield™ in many of its polymer sheets. King
MicroShield is a new kind of antimicrobial protection that
helps products stay cleaner between cleanings and
inhibits the growth of product-damaging microorganisms,
including bacteria, algae and fungi on the surface.
King MicroShield is available in King StarBoard®, King
StarBoard® ST, King CuttingColors®, King CuttingBoard®,
King Hy-Pact VH and King PlastiBal® restroom partitions.
Polymers made with King MicroShield are easy to clean,
disinfect and keep hygienic using standing cleaning procedures.
Constant use of cleaning solutions will not affect
the antimicrobial protection of the material.
The product is safe, non-toxic and non-hazardous to
ship and handle. It is EPA-registered and listed with the
FDA as a modifier to medical devices. Microbe cell walls
that come in contact with King MicroShield are destroyed
instantly without creating opportunities for adaptive or
resistant strains to form. The material is non-leaching,
with the antimicrobial agent bonded at the atomic level
and integrated throughout the sheet.

5-axis CNC
Thermwood’s
Model 90 represents a new generation, 5-
axis CNC machine for high speed trimming and modeling.
The state-of-the-art mechanical structure design created a
machine with unmatched strength, stiffness and performance.
All of which translates into high speed, accurate
and stable motions. The machine was specifically
designed for the machining of advanced aerospace composites,
high speed machining of wood
and aluminum, in addition to extremely fast trimming of 3
dimensional plastic parts.
The Model 90 also incorporates
a new advanced, high
performance drives system.
This translates into extremely
fast feed
speeds,
dramatically
reducing
cycle
times. The advanced
machine design, along with the Gen2 control system, is
