Gemini Red Gemex Sheet Has Gone Green
At Gemini Incorporated, they’re so
environmentally conscious that
even their red has gone green.
That’s because, as of
September 1, 2009, Gemini
will begin using a new formulation
for red plastic Gemex®
sheet that is even more
“Green” friendly. The new
2793 Red pigment is an allorganic
formulation, which is
good for your customers, good for
the environment, and can help you
achieve credits for LEED (Leadership
in Energy & Environmental Design) certification.
Quality tests on the new 2793 Red, a bright candyapple
color, demonstrate the new formulation also has an
improved surface quality during thermoforming applications.
Like all Gemini products, it has been fully UV tested
and comes with Gemini’s lifetime guarantee.
Gemini’s Gemex sheet is made out of CAB (Cellulose
Acetate Butyrate). Unlike other plastics that are petroleumbased,
CAB is a wood and cotton-fiber based plastic that is
completely recyclable. Gemex sheets are extruded using a
co-extrusion process. The top, or cap layer consists of virgin
resin, while the bottom layer contains recycled sheet from
previous runs of Gemini’s thermoforming operations. In fact,
between 55% and 65% of Gemex CAB sheets are made
from Gemini’s own from recycled trim produced during
other thermoforming manufacturing processes.
