Sheet for Edge-Lit and Back-Lit LED Displays

Lucite International, Inc., in partnership with Mitsubishi Rayon Co. Ltd., (MRC) announced the introduction of Shinkolite-A into the U.S. market. Produced from a special, high quality continuous cast sheet formula, Shinkolite-A is a light-guiding and diffusion acrylic sheet for use in edge-lit and back-lit signs typically used in advertising, retail and information displays.

The new products are branded LXN 875, LXN 885 and for back-lit LED, NE 14, 15 and 16.

The production of the light-emitting and diffusion sheets is being made possible by Mitsubishi Rayon’s development of a unique continuous casting method. This method enables the production of acrylic sheets with a heat resistance approximately 10° C higher than conventional sheet extrusion or cell cast methods. The material out performs the extruded and cell cast products in the categories of formability, processability, weatherability, solvent resistance and optical strain. In addition, continuous cast acrylic sheet is unparalleled in the uniformity of thickness throughout the sheet.

The thickness of these products is designed for optimal luminosity effect when LEDs are used as a light source.

The LXN 875 sheet has been designed for large displays and the LXN 885 sheet for small and medium size displays. The L NE 14, 15, 16 direct type units leverage the technological expertise in the fields of transparency and light-diffusion control.

The L NE 14 is the standard product, the L NE 15 allows for extra brightness and the L NE 16 sheet is designed for higher color temperature (color temperature refers to the measurement of color expressed in Kelvin “K” degrees).
