Spriatex Expansion
Spiratex, a southeast Michigan-based custom thermoplastic
extrusion manufacturer, is doubling the size of its
Monroe-area Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene
(UHMWPE) manufacturing facility.
The project includes a 48,000-square-foot addition to
the manufacturing operation, 17 new production lines and
a 3,000-square-foot office expansion.
The expansion will allow Spiratex to respond to the
growing demand for UHMWPE extrusions and conveyor
guiderail production. Strong growth in custom extrusions,
combined with increasing demand for standard components,
is driving the expansion.
Founded in 1955, Spiratex is an industry leader in
polyurethane and UHMWPE extrusion, and manufactures
products worldwide in virtually any thermoplastic material.
“The Monroe plant expansion project allows us to keep
up with growing demand for our extrusion services,” said
Garry Markle, chief operating officer of Spiratex. “The
downturn in the economy has forced many companies to
lower their inventories and buying domestic reduces transit
times. With this business model, Spiratex is increasing
its capacity to allow shorter lead-times and more production
schedule flexibility, which increases our customers’
ability to operate on leaner inventories.”
