X-ray Detectable PEEK
Ršchling Engineering Plastics is the first manufacturer to
offer extruded X-ray detectable PEEK sheets and rods for
machined parts and components specifically designed for
high temperature applications. Repeated handling, cleaning
and normal wear and tear of plastic component parts
on processing machinery increases the risk of a fragment
breaking off and
contaminating the
product, especially
with the ongoing
pressure to
increase production
line speeds.
Quality checks are
performed at
process control
points typically with either metal or x-ray detection systems.
In many cases, X-ray systems are required or preferred
due to the food (such as meat products) and the fact
that the system can effectively detect contamination postpackaging.
SustaPEEK XDT has been proven to be detected in a
particle as small as a 3mm cube on production lines running
as fast as 250 fpm.
Together with their recently developed Polystone M XDT
(UHMW-PE) and Sustarin C XDT (Acetal), Ršchling now
provides three of the most commonly used engineering
plastics in the food processing industry in these special x-ray
detectable grades. With new regulations in place, the
FDA now mandates that all food processors have comprehensive
preventive controls and safety programs.
The material is available as rods 1/2Ó to 6Ó dia. and
sheets 3/8Ó to 4Ó thick. Applications include scraper
blades, filler plates, pocket fillers, piston fillers, mixer components,
wear plate, volumetric fillers, hopper guides, baffles,
pillow blocks, cups and sleeves and dividers.
