LATE BREAKING NEWS

Curbell Sponsors First Dance/First Stride Events
Orchard Park-based Curbell Plastics, Inc., one of the nation’s premier suppliers of plastic sheet, rod, tube, film, adhesives, sealants, and prototyping materials, has continued its support of the Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation (OPAF), sponsoring the organization’s First Dance and First Stride events in Dallas, Texas. Both events were held in partnership with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

Curbell Plastics sponsored similar events in 2016 that were also organized by OPAF in partnership with students in the Orthotics and Prosthetics Program at UT Southwestern Medical School. OPAF typically partners with a local organization to host and organize events in their respective communities. In addition to helping organize the event, UT Southwestern students also served as volunteers to assist participants and gain experience in personal interaction with those using prosthetic devices to better understand the challenges they face.

Originally established to support the Paralympics, OPAF now has a broader mission of enabling individuals served by the orthotics and prosthetics community to enjoy the rewards of personal achievement, physical fitness, and social interaction. It’s First Dance, First Stride and other similar events are designed to provide introductory level adaptive recreation for anyone with a physical or mobility challenge.

According to Jeff Wilson, Business Development Manager for Orthotics, Prosthetics, & Podiatry at Curbell Plastics, “We are delighted to renew our support for this wonderful program that is championed by our customer, The O&P Program at UT Southwestern. While it is tremendously impactful for participants, the students who volunteer at these events also gain so much perspective about what it’s like to rely on a prosthetic device. This knowledge will surely help them in their future careers.”
