NON-MECHANICAL HINGE
Thermoplastic Processes introduced their new non-mechanical integrated hinge made of coextruded elastomeric substrate sandwiched between two PETG profiles. The company feels that this hinge is superior is clarity, toughness and performance to hinges currently on the market.
"Clear materials are critical to the display business," said Wes Wheeler, Executive VP. "Our objective was to develop an alternative to conventional opaque hinges." "The POP industry already uses sheet stock and profiles made of Spectar copolyester from Eastman Chemical."
The company felt that hinges made of the same material as the display units would have to be as strong as the base material. The hinges can be mechanically or solvent-bonded to PETG sheet components. Compatibility between the sheet and the hinge produces the strongest bond with the least amount of effort.
