WOOD PLASTIC COMPOSITE
A new material being offered in pellet form, from Natural Fiber Composites, offers a number of advantages over both wood and plastic when used separately. The Wood-Com materials are said to give greater heat resistance and stiffness along with superior reinforcing properties than the use of solid wood. The material can be injection molded, thermoformed or extruded and is said to be a thermoset material. Additional advantages include less weight and the company feels that it is a "green" product which is environmentally friendly and satisfy minimum content requirements.
Products manufactured by the company replace mineral filled compounds with organic/natural fibers. The company formulates compounds to meet individual customer requirements and vary according to resins used, percentage of organic filler and modifiers needed to bring about the most desirable performance characteristics for specific applications.
