WORLD'S BEST BOWLER
Brunswick, a manufacturer of bowling balls and equipment, introduced what may be the world's best bowler. It's a mechanical bowling machine that, for the first time in the more than 100-year history of modern bowling ball manufacturing, provides a scientifically valid testing mechanism with repeatability of ball throw and objectivity of measurements.
The "Throbot" has the capability to duplicate any bowler's release characteristics and can throw balls with a degree of repeatability not humanly possible. It is used in conjunction with a 24-sensor computer-aided tracking system (CATS) mounted down the bowling lane.
The Throbot can spin the ball just like the professionals do to produce the hooking action that is needed to score strikes, and it can throw left-handed or right-handed .
As the bowling ball travels down the lane, the 24 CATS sensors record the trajectory and speed of the ball. This is used to calculate the hooking potential of the ball.
"The machine will allow Brunswick to develop scientifically valid data on ball and coverstock performance, said Klaus H. Sommer, VP, Polymers Research. Get one for your team today.
