MEASUREMENT SENSOR FOR CNC ROUTERS
Thermwood Corporation offers a part measurement system for its line of CNC routers. The touch sensor is used in conjunction with Thermwood's Advanced Function Language to create programs that automatically adjust for variations in part thickness. The sensor is mounted to the Z axis of the machine. In operation, the Z axis and sensor move through a measurement routine that only takes a few seconds. The exact thickness of the part blank is then fed to a part program variable. Measurement accuracy of 0.001" or better is typically achieved. This allows precise accurate machining possible. The Advanced Programming Language, which is required for the new sensor, is already included with every 91000 SuperControl. It does require a higher level of programming skill than creating simple part programs.
