THERMAL BONDING PEN FILM
A new heat-bondable grade of DuPont Kaladex(r) polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) film permits efficient application of high-performance insulation in many electrical devices.
Kaladex(r) 2500 can be thermally bonded to itself and to metal. Typical applications include turn-to-turn and wrap-to-wrap insulation for transformers, specialty packaging and electronic applications, according to David Anderson, Applications Development Manager.
Kaladex(r) PEN films offer performance and cost options between those of PET polyester and polyimide films. They have high stiffness and mechanical strength, low thermal shrinkage, excellent dielectric strength, and excellent hydrolysis and chemical resistance.
DuPont supplies Kaladex(r) in thicknesses from 100 to 500 gauge (25 to 125 um). The adhesive coating adds 12 gauge (3.5 um) to the film's thickness.
