ABS UNIT SOLD
DSM is going to sell its ABS business (including the trade names Ronfalin(r) and Stapron(r) N) to BASF.
Commenting on the deal, Mr. Frans Noteborn, Director of DSM Performance Polymers, said "This divestment fits in with DSM's strategy of focusing on core activities in which we have, or can achieve, leading positions."
BASF is one of the world's leading producers of ABS and other styrene copolymers. Its production capacity amounts to 400,000 tpa divided over sites in Germany, Spain, South Korea and Australia. A new plant in Altamira (Mexico), will increase capacity to 530,000 tpa, making BASF the only ABS producer capable of manufacturing the same product grades in Europe, the NAFTA region and Asia.
