HIGH-PERFORMANCE SCREWS
Performance Plastic Fasteners, Inc. has expanded its standard Perpl product line to include fasteners made with Verton(r) structural composites from LNP Engineering Plastics. The screws combine exceptional strength, toughness and environmental resistance for direct replacement for metal fasteners in demanding structural applications. According to Dan Lazas, President of Performance Plastic Fasteners, Inc., "In order to make screws that are non-corrosive, non-magnetic, non-conductive, and lightweight, we needed a material with high strength to meet tensile, shear and torque values while retaining the necessary toughness." "Up until now," says Lazas, "the only non-metallic screw that was readily available was an unfilled nylon screw which is used as a commodity in non-performance applications. If an engineer needed a more performance-oriented screw, he or she would have to develop a custom made product. In essence we've done that for them. Unlike custom made products, however, these screws are readily available and very cost effective." New Perpl product choices include Series 5 screws made with Verton(r)RF, a long glass fiber reinforced nylon 6/6 composite, and Series 3 screws made with Verton(r)MFX, a long glass fiber reinforced polypropylene composite. These new fasteners are designed to meet the majority of demanding applications across a number of different markets. The Series 3 screws offer outstanding chemical, water, and temperature resistance.
