Elf Atochem North America, Inc. has introduced Plexiglas ELIT acrylic sheet. The sheet makes streamlined, lightweight, and economical light boxes, display cases, and signs possible.
It is specially designed for edge lighting on one or two sides using fluorescent tubes. Bulky display boxes are unnecessary because the tubes reside in side profiles, permitting frames as slim as 1.5-inch. The sheet incorporates an additive that scatters light from the edges so that it diffuses evenly through the display surfaces. Designers can use the sheet off the shelf since custom screened surface preparations are unnecessary.
Graphics can appear on one or both surfaces. In single-surface display applications, the sheet used with a white backing material reflects light to the other surface. In double-sided displays, each display surface contains the sign graphic. Material for the graphic can be paper, polyester, or vinyl. The display size determines whether lighting is required on one or more edges. The sheet can also be used to illuminate directory panels used in underground concourses, shopping centers and restaurants.
