CYRO Industries Wins "Star" Award
The Sanford, Maine testing and manufacturing facility of CYRO Industries has received the "Star" Award for outstanding safety compliance from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). The "Star" recognition, part of OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Plan (VPP) program, represents the agency’s most prestigious industry award. It is reserved for work sites that have successfully implemented comprehensive health and safety protocols, and whose employee injury and illness rates fall well below the national average for their respective industries.

On average, only one in 10,000 facilities receives "Star" site status, and CYRO’s Sanford plant becomes only the 31st facility in New England to achieve this distinction in the VPP program’s 20-year history. The designation is reached only after a lengthy application process and an intensive on-site review.

"This award is the culmination of intensive employee-driven safety initiatives, and it represents CYRO’s industry leadership in developing programs to prevent injuries in the workplace," says Dr. Klaus Dorn, CYRO’s Director, Technology and Manufacturing. He adds that this is another impressive achievement for the Sanford plant, which two years ago became only the third manufacturing site in the state of Maine to receive ISO-14001 certification for outstanding environmental management.

"Our people believe that all accidents are preventable, and we are proud of each employee’s contribution to safety in the workplace," says Sanford Plant Manager Dick Healy. "It is a natural extension of our commitment to quality in every aspect of manufacturing." Healy notes that in addition to better safety records, VPP sites also report lower worker absentee rates compared to industry averages.

CYRO’s Sanford plant produces specialty-coated acrylic sheet products used for numerous applications, including signs, display and store fix-tures, framing and architectural and security glazing.
