"Ice" Illusion From Spectar Sheet
Eastman Chemical Company announced that Spectar copolyester, distributed in sheet form by specialist supplier Silwood Plastics Ltd. (London, UK), was used by Talbot Design to add realism to the Ice Palace of the blockbuster film Die Another Day.
Talbot Design’s expertise and Eastman’s Spectar copolyester combined to enable the EON Production team to create one of the most spectacular scenes in the Ice Palace set during the filming of the movie. The swan-shaped bed was fabricated from 25 separate vacuum-formed Spectar segments. In addition, Spectar copolyester was a key component of 100 chairs and a Grand Piano featured in the Ice Palace.
"The clarity and versatility of Spectar copolyester is evident in these unique applications. Spectar copolyester is tough and does not develop a crystalline haze when extruded from pellet to sheet – characteristics that made it a perfect choice for the ice illusion," said Jorge Cortes, Eastman business market manager.
"Spectar sheet is easy to thermoform and decorate, allowing for the intricate designs seen in this exciting film. Spectar sheet is versatile and tough which mean less breakage in shop, in transportation and in use," noted Cortes.
