Granulate Plastics Extruder/Welder
A new, mini-extruder that is ideally suited for laboratory use, prototyping and the low volume production of thermoplastic profile extrusions is being introduced by Malcom Hot Air
Systems.
Malcom’s Dohle Type 6000 Granulate Extruder is capable of producing extrusions from most palletized thermoplastics in a wide range of shapes and sizes, depending upon the die design. Featuring variable speed operation, this lightweight extruder can process up to 13 lbs. per hour (HDPE) and is ideally suited for product development and low volume applications. The extruder has also been used to build machines to automatically weld tanks and containers.
For this application, advantages include speed because of a high output, reduced labor costs, improved weld quality and the fact that the customer can automate the process. There is also a significant reduction in material costs using pellets versus welding rod and theoretically
you produce a higher quality weld due to the fact that you are not heating the plastic one more time and you can use the same resin that the sheet is made of to get a perfect match. Measuring only 31.6”L x 8.5”W x 17.2”H and weighing 40 pounds, Malcom’s Dohle Type 6000 Granulate Extruder has a 2.3 kW power rating, an 1100 psi pressure rating, 22 mm
screw diameter, and is designed for continuous operation. The temperature of the extruded material and pre-heated air are controlled from a separate unit that incorporates cold-start
protection.
