Patent Issued on Heat Shrinkable UHMW Polymers
Fluoron, Inc. has discovered that they could make ultrahigh
melt viscosity polymers such as ultra-high molecular
weight polyethylene and the homopolymer Teflon® PTFE
heat shrinkable at temperatures as low as 225ºF. Teflon®
has outstanding anti-stick properties and the lowest coefficient
of friction of all materials, while UHMW-PE has the
best wear resistance of all plastics and the addition of the
right form of carbon makes them static-dissipative.
With a large inventory of static dissipative 1/16” thick
sheet of UHMW-PE and Teflon® PTFE, Fluoron can readily
custom manufacture tubing up to 10’ in diameter and 36’
in length from their sheet stock utilizing their butt weld
seaming technology. Their efforts were rewarded when the
U.S. Patent Office issued patent # 6,471,627.
