We kick-off the new year with a spotlight on polycarbonate. This versatile material comes in many forms and formulations. From panels to sheets and rods to profiles it is extremely impact resistant and is even available with up to a Level 3 bullet-resistant rating. See our overview of a variety of materials offered by some of the industry’s leading suppliers by clicking here.

But first our cover feature spotlights two architectural applications that achieved a dramatic effect with polycarbonate panels both indoors and out. Our second feature shows how designers meet tough challenges to provide Samsung with a cutting edge look for their Manhattan showroom.

In Van Niser we are re-running his article on Routing Polycarbonate. Basically a soft material, polycarbonate can present some unique challenges when it is machined or trimmed. With the proper tooling and programming however, it can be cut with great results.

In Safety Solutions this month, Jack Podojil is recommending some changes for the new year. Jack has outlined several things that every manager should review to make sure your facilities safety and health programs are doing their best to protect you and your employees.

What’s next? In the March/April issue we will shine the spotlight on polyethylene and polypropylene. Sometimes referred to as “commodity” materials, PE and PP have made their way into countless industries, in part, due to their relatively low cost, toughness and numerous formulations that offer a wide range of properties.

It’s a new year and a great time to make some changes around here. So to kick-off the new year we have made a change in the way our readers request information from our advertisers. When you see a product or service that you would like to know more about, just click on the e-Reader Service link in the upper left corner of our homepage. After you fill out some basic information, you just check the advertisers you are interested in and click send. Both the advertisers name and e-Reader number from below their ad are shown for quick reference. It’s that simple. You can also manage your subscription on our e-Reader Service page.

Whether you are looking for information on fabricating or materials, machinery, tooling or accessories, you’ll find it at www.plasticsmag.com. See our 2007 Buyer’s Guide or search our ten year article archive.

Enjoy the issue,
