Lathes With a Small Footprint
With the ever-increasing trend towards shorter-run,
multiple-op work, small-to medium-sized shops are
finding they need versatile, second-operation machines
that can handle a broad range of jobs. The
GT Series lathes from Haas
Automation, Inc., are designed
to meet those needs head on.
These small-footprint production
machines deliver high power and
a wide range of speeds - at very
affordable prices.
The compact GT-10 and GT-20
both take up very little floor space, yet
offer generous workpiece capacities, making
them ideal “chucker” lathes for shops where
space is at a premium. The GT-10 has a 10” x 8”
maximum capacity, with part swings of 16.25” over the
front apron and 12.75” over the cross slide. The GT-20
offers an 11” x 12” maximum capacity, with part swings of
13” over the front apron and 9.25” over the cross slide.
Both GT machines are equipped with a powerful Haasdesigned
vector drive spindle (7.5 hp for the GT-10; 20 hp
for the GT-20) that provides high torque and a wide constant-
power band. Rapids of 710 ipm and a high-speed
cross slide yield short cycle times.
In base configuration, the GT Series machines have a
maximum speed of 3,000 rpm, and do
not include a chuck, hydraulic system
or tool turret. An optional pneumatic
chucking clamping system is available
for the GT-10, and a high-productivity
hydraulic chucking system is available
for the GT-20. These options
increase maximum spindle speed to
4,000 rpm. No tooling is included
with either machine, but an 8-position
bolt-on style automatic tool turret
is available. High-productivity
options are also available.
