Engravable Polymer Sheet
The Miami Design District is known for its sleek modern architecture, upscale interior design stores, and art galleries. The seven-story building has a mix of retail spaces, public spaces, and parking for approximately 800 vehicles. Miami Museum Garage features distinctly bold and eclectic styles crafted by five artists from all over the world. The façade along the 41st street entrance and exit of the building is designed by Nicolas Buffe, a French born artist. Buffe’s intricate 2D and 3D elements are crafted from laser-cut metals and fiber resin plastic depicting elephants, gargoyles and caryatids, and stone carvings of draped figures used as pillars for Greek Revival buildings. Four 23-foot-tall sculptures stand at the entrance and exit of the garage. The black and white illustrations and parking sign are made with 1/2” gauge 48” x 96” sheets of King ColorCore® polymer sheets in black/white/black and white/black/white.

King ColorCore is a versatile multi-color engravable high-density polyethylene sheet with multiple layers of contrasting colors. It is a superior homogeneous sheet, a product of a unique state-of-the-art continuous process called Polyfusion, and manufactured to the highest standards in the industry. King ColorCore has a matte finish on both sides of the sheet. It is environmentally stabilized to withstand the harshest outdoor conditions. The material will not rust, delaminate or rot when exposed to UV, humidity or water. It is made with high-impact- resistant polymer to handle more abuse than conventional sign materials. Its thin cap layers and bright primary colors make it ideal for signage, marine, playground and recreational applications. For maximum versatility, standard colors are made to coordinate with King ColorBoard®. The polymer sheet never needs painting or refinishing, works like wood and it is easy to fabricate using common woodworking tools and techniques. The material is easy to engrave and machine, as the cap is approximately .050” thick.

Custom-Extrusion Profiles
Popco, Inc., manufacturers and distributors of point-of-purchase hardware, has just added an extensive collection of custom- extrusion profiles to their website. These profiles can be produced in virtually any length, and in a variety of plastic materials and colors. The profiles range from standard shapes that serve the p.o.p. industry, such as C-channels and J-channels, to more exotic shapes for displaying marketing materials in new and unexpected ways. Popco can also produce extruded parts for industries outside of retail, or, develop new extrusion tools for specific projects if none of the existing tool profiles are quite right.

Crystal Clear Edges
A challenge in the machining of PMMA, acrylic, Plexiglas ® or Makrolon® is that these plastics become too hot during processing and may even melt. The efficient machining of this materials is complex. Special tools such as Hufschmied's Plexiglas milling cutter 110FPRV "Raven-V" are needed here.

The innovative cutting-edge geometry allows the 110FPRV milling tool to process these sensitive transparent materials to be machined burr free and with virtually crystal- clear cutting edges despite high feed rates. With the roughing and finishing tool, machining is possible in one step without tool change and without re-polishing. Additionally, superior tool life increases efficiency and profitability.

Other tools in the series are the radius cutter 110FPER for 3D machining and the V slot cutter 110V, the tool for lettering, chamfering or profile cuts. You can find more information about these tools in their product flyer.

Large-Format CO2 Laser
Kern Lasers introduces their economical, largeformat CO2 laser the EcoFlex. Avail able in 50 - 250 watts with work areas of 52” x 50” or 52” x 100”. This laser is a perfect economical solution to manufacturers of signs and P.O.P products.

Signs incorporating LED backlighting is found everywhere these days. The translucent acrylic can be placed on the front side of the LED lit panel, consisting of highefficiency LED light strips which are snapped to the edge of the acrylic panels which effectively diffuse light across a dot or line pattern laser etched into the acrylic sheet. This creates a brightly lit panel with a consistent glow.

At Kern Laser they understand the relationship between lasers and acrylic, and they invite you to inquire about which laser system is right for your needs.

Extruded, Corona-Treated HDPE
PE2PRINT® from Roechling is found in many applications and solutions thanks to its toughness, durability, recyclability, and cold temperature characteristics. PE2PRINT is an extruded, corona-treated HDPE material that allows for vivid, full-color graphics on a durable surface that won’t chip, crack, peel, or break. Weather and moisture resistance make this material long-lasting in outdoor applications, and it features better impact resistance than other signage materials such as polystyrene.

Classified as a #2 recyclable material that can be reclaimed by most industrial recycling centers, PE2PRINT is the environmentally friendly option for printable signage and displays. Lightweight and durable, it is used in point-of-purchase displays, shelf liners, merchandising strips, shelf danglers, industrial safety signage, outdoor signage, and much more.

PE2PRINT is available in thicknesses from 0.016” to 0.25” and comes in thirteen eye-catching colors with custom Pantone® color matching available upon request. This versatile material has a dull smooth texture on top, which provides an ideal surface for high resolution graphics, and the underside of the sheet has a soft matte ‘grain’ texture. The material is printable using conventional, U.V., or 4-color process screen printing, lithography, and hotstamping, and can easily be die-cut or guillotined to the application’s required size and shape.
