NEW USE FOR VINYL
The Chicago Transit Authority has transformed one of its commuter trains into a billboard on tracks for the Illinois Lottery.
Touted as the nation's first wrapped transit train, the so-called Lottery Train is covered in 2,700 feet of vinyl plastic, creating a gigantic billboard that's seen by thousands of riders each day.
Meanwhile, giant coffee manufacturer Maxwell House hopes to wake up morning commuters with its own wrapped CTA train.
With today's clutter of advertising, where messages are flashed across everything from blimps in the sky to free pens, the companies say the trains are an innovative and creative way to reach audiences. One transit line alone serves nearly 5 million riders each month.
