GUIDE TO THERMOFORMING PLASTICS
A new publication, "A Processing Guide for Thermoforming," from Bayer Corporation, explains thermoforming from 'absorptance' to 'wrinkling.' The 80-page booklet provides practical information and advice to help plastics processors most effectively use the advantages of thermoforming.
With chapters on mold and part design, equipment for thermoforming, feedstocks, and both single-step and multiple-step forming techniques, the publication is a wealth of information. The booklet includes a brief history of thermoforming and a very useful 'Troubleshooting Guide.' to help solve the occasional problems that can arise in using this plastic sheet processing technique.
Thermoforming offers a variety of advantages in certain applications. These include large-part moldability, less expensive tooling, the ability to handle both co-extruded and laminated sheet, shorter lead time from concept to production, and the ability to mold, fill, decorate and seal in a continuous operation.
