FLAME-RETARDANT POLYCARBONATE
A silicone based additive is said to retard the combustion of polycarbonate material without diminishing any of the physical properties of the polycarbonate sheet. The product was developed by NEC-Corporation in Japan, along with Sumitomo Dow Ltd. Previous flame-retardant materials were made from brominated flame-retardant additives which have come under attack by Germany's new ecological laws. These brominated materials could possibly give off toxic gases and the silicone material was designed to overcome this drawback.
