NEW ELECTRONIC COMMERCE REPORT
A new report that says distributors and their partners in the supply chain are only about 3 years into a 10-year business revolution that will fundamentally change the way companies do business with each other. It will be released in late April by the Distribution Research & Education Foundation (DREF), the research arm of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors.
"The big message in this report is that there are two major changes coming," said Bruce Merrifield of Merrifield Consulting Group. "One is practical Continuous Replenishment Programs, and the other is truly Interactive Web Commerce. These will combine to shock the entire distribution channel into creating a new business model. The good news is that these capabilities will offer unprecedented chances to streamline the channel and eliminate cost. Also, much of the channel is at the early stages of development in these areas, so there is still a chance for companies to compete before the playing field tilts."
