DISPLAY UNITS
Magazines sold in shops owned by U.K. retail sector giant, W. H. Smith, are being displayed on a new Bartuf® magazine rack system made of sheet of Eastman Chemical Company's SPECTAR® copolyester.
The retailer developed detailed specification for its new display units that called for simplicity with an elegant but functional design. The units had to be crystal clear to display a large number of magazines yet durable and quick and easy to install and maintain.
Barkston Plastics Display Ltd. developed the system with a variety of shelf options and met all of the retailers criterion. It was easy to make multiple heat-bends at temperatures significantly lower than those required for sheet of acrylic or polycarbonate. The finished product does not require assembly by a specialized shopfitter and, having no opaque parts, is simple yet has an elegant appearance. Studies have shown that the sheet is 15 to 20 times tougher than general purpose acrylics and 3 to 10 times tougher than impact-modified acrylics, allowing the racks to be filled with magazines without breaking. And the unit can be easily cleaned with industrial cleaners because of the sheet's high chemical resistance.
