Medical Grade Radio Opaque Plastic
Westlake Plastics announced the availability of medical
grade Radel R5500 Barium Sulfate, a high temperature
radio opaque material. It has good thermal and mechanical
properties and is able to withstand repeated sterilizations.
Recommended sterilization techniques for Radel R5500
Barium Sulfate include
EtO gas, gamma radiation,
steam autoclaving,
dry heat and cold
sterilization. Other
medical radio opaque
materials available
include Acetal and
Noryl.
Westlake also features
medical grade
compression molded UHMW which is produced in accordance
with ASTM F-648 standards for use as an implant
grade material and ISO 5834-1/2 for use in international
markets. Westlake compression molded sheets are formed
under heat and pressure, and are slowly cooled to produce
a very dimensionally stable, virtually stress-free
sheet ideal for machining and fabrication.
Westlake production is performed under clean room
conditions in accordance with FDA mandated GMPS and
their quality system is ISO 9001 certified.
Applications include articular surfaces for all total joint
replacement prostheses (hip, knee, shoulder, ankle, wrist,
spinal disc or elbow). The advantages of medical grade
Lennite UHMWPE: available in GUR 1020 and GUR 1050
resins; available in sheet, rectangular bar and round bar;
lot controlled and traceable; ASTM F648 and ISO 5834.2
certified, custom certifications available, available in ram
extruded bar stock, fully annealed in 1020 and 1050
resins and it is produced in the United States.
Compression molded sheet is available in 24” x 48”
sheet, 1" to 4" thick in 1/2" increments.
