Lucite International Builds MMA Plant In China Lucite International, announced the construction of a methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant in China, the world’s fastest growing market. The new, state-of-art production facility will be fully operational by mid 2005.

Global demand for acrylics is growing, fuelled largely by economic growth and development of new products and technologies globally.

China is the fourth largest and now the fastest growing market with a current consumption of 200 kte, rising by around 10% per annum.

Lucite was instrumental in developing this market and will build on this position to become the largest supplier of MMA in China with a well-established supply chain. Investment in the plant will total $100 million dollars. The plant, located in Caojing 70km south of Shanghai, will have an initial capacity to produce 93 kte of MMA per annum with the option to expand this to 150 kte in the next phase.
